About the festival

LodeStar 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009

Everyday life throws the ‘What and Where’ at us, what we should be doing and where we should be going. When asked “what is LodeStar about,” (its theme or uniqueness) I reply there is none as it isn’t a product it’s an ethos, a feeling,  for you to make of it as you wish. LodeStar is more about the reasons ‘Why’ we do things. I hope that experiencing the festival you understand the ‘Why’ of LodeStar.

My name is Doug and from my teenage years I’ve held a vision of staging a festival here on the land my family have cared for and worked on for four generations. My inspiration for this festival called LodeStar is the thought of people coming together and sharing a moment in time of great music and good times! It has not been an easy path but then I didn’t expect it to be.

I do believe a powerful experience gives us something back easily lost in our busy stressful lives, importantly the value of life and those around us. It’s my big wish that the festival inspires people to think about our world and every living thing on it. LodeStar is a great opportunity for you to actively being part of the experience in putting on such a festival. Especially if you have never thought of doing anything like it before! If you decide to come I am sure you will understand my thoughts, the fields are a very special place to be.

The flat fenland yields to the expansive night sky that’s sprinkled with stars, to the North the guiding star that has borne some of the inspiration of LodeStar, navigating people since time began.

What genre? Rock, Pop, Indie, Electro, Acoustic and everything that hits your ears and heart will be performing at Lodestar, bringing you new music from creative artists able to deliver a song and vibe that touches everyone. The energy of bands on stage can be electrifying, the vibrant music, and performances pulling people together.

Music is important in our daily lives as it’s emotive and brings forward feelings and memories. Having artists performing in such a great location with a fantastic tune and heart piercing lyrics will be captured in your memory. The feelings and details of any such moment are relived when the song is heard again. A memory is intangible much as our thoughts of the night sky full of distant stars, my hope is that you take away a feeling of having shared an experience with like minded people. Much as a glimpse of a shooting star, a vision of something wonderful that you never forget, timeless!

We are all unique but what happens to us is not, the way we live each day is how our world becomes. It’s an ethos at the heart of LodeStar.

LodeStar’s professional team is aided by keen volunteers each year. Why not put yourself forward to be part of LodeStar, (it’s fun, I’ve done it).

Hand picked Traders supplying quality food and wares, the crews, film makers and some of the best artists around will all be here to welcome you!

The happening

When something beautiful happens quite often its individuals that come together with a need that perhaps isn’t always clear. We are led in our modern lives by goals probably not that important overall. How we treat each other is the essence of our time here and I hope LodeStar holds a small message that we do care. The world is in turmoil but it can slowly change. A global recession is a good time to look at what matters and regain a perspective lost from childhood. Who questions what really matters anymore…… Will you?
As a farmer called Yasgur once said “it’s a victory for peace and love” for all the people ….and for all the music!
