SXSW 2011
“We are thrilled to announce we have been added to the line up of South By South West Festival in Austin, Texas in 2011! Last year we rocked the festival held in the Lone star state and we’re excited to return to the best music industry showcase around. SXSW takes place next March and it’d be great to see some of our US fans there. Los Angeles watch out also…”
Doll and The Kicks are now in their fourth year and, after recently self-releasing their debut self-titled album, they have had their busiest year yet. 2009 has seen the band supporting Morrissey on his World tour, playing at venues such as Brixton Academy and The Royal Albert Hall. They also travelled to America with Morrissey and have since revisited the States to play another successful tour and to perform at SXSW festival. Somehow in amongst all this the band have managed to fit headline UK tours of their own to promote their debut album which has sold around 5000 copies. Still an unsigned band, Doll and The Kicks are rapidly making a name for themselves around the UK and further for being not just a great live act but also having the business sense and hard work ethic needed to survive in the modern music industry.
Media enthusiasm has grown with coverage from MTV One, BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music, Sub TV, Channel M, BBC Southern Counties, Kerrang Radio, The Fly, The Brighton Guide, London Lite, Total Guitar and Artrocker. The band were chosen as MSN’s Unsigned Band of the Month in November 2008. They have also been featured in the January 2009 MySpace newsletter as one of the Top 10 New Bands for 2009, alongside Lady Gaga and Florence and the Machine.
Doll and The Kicks formed in 2005 while attending University in Brighton. They were singled out from the Brighton music scene when they were invited by BBC Southern Counties to perform at the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury 2007. Doll and the Kicks spent 2008 tirelessly touring the UK and Europe and appearing at events including The Great Escape, Beachdown Festival and Brighton Live, as well as supporting established artists, including Gabriela Cilmi and Das Pop.
