“An inventive brand of guitar-laden country folk pop with a cosmic aesthetic and sprinkles of trademark Manchester’s musical lineage.” Clash Magazine
On 17 October Manchester band The Travelling Band are to release a new single. Called ʻSundial MMXIʼ the track is an edited version of what is rapidly becoming a festival anthem as the band live up to their name with winning sets across the UKʼs festival circuit. Initially released as a very limited edition single in 2010, ʻSundialʼ is now getting a full release due to popular demand.
Dispensing with the need for a verse, ʻSundialʼ instead centres around a glorious refrain which circles around, swelling as it does to include strings, horns, harmonies and a gleeful euphoria. ʻSundialʼ isnʼt quite soul music, isnʼt quite folk, isnʼt quite pop or rock, but is, unremittingly beautiful. If the UKʼs summer festivals need an anthem, then this is probably it.
Lifted from their second album ʻScreaming Is Somethingʼ, ʻSundialʼ is backed with an edited version of On The Rails, also taken from the new album, and there will be videos for both and a free download from the website.
The Travelling Bandʼs shimmering blend of cosmic-country-pop, understated psychedelia, vocal harmonies and nu-folk has made them one of the most talked about artists to emerge from the Manchester music scene – “If you consider the term Mancunian Americana to be an oxymoron try listening to the Travelling Band. Brilliant” Marc Riley BBC 6 Music.
